Yes, I Am Going to Feel Elite

Yes, I am going to feel elite to many, and why, because I read and study. I keep trying to learn. I am a student of history and all things. I have been a student and a learner all my life. I will not stop until I die.

I know some history. I know who led America to a period of prosperity and a strong place in the world during and after WWII. I know which president helped build a group of democracies allied against Hitler. I know which president helped to bring NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) to become an effective wall against the world domination plans of the former Soviet Union (Putin’s predecessor). I know which president tried to destroy NATO and ruin our relationships with our European allies. (Ask yourself, who would have benefitted from this – a Mr. Putin maybe?) I know which president launched the Marshal Plan to rebuild a destroyed Europe after WWII. I know which presidents stood up to the so-called “evil empire.”

So, yes, I do feel elite. I know which presidents built something that would make the world a safer and better place. I know which presidents stood up to autocrats and did not take the word of a cold-blooded killer over the American intelligence community when he met the thug to thug in Helsinki. I know which president asked for a political favor from the Ukranian president in exchange for military aide already appropriated by our Congress without any political favor strings attached. I know which president deserved impeachment twice. I know which presidents helped to build an American middle class, and not golf courses and high rises so Russian oligarchs would have a place to hide their dirty money.

I know which presidents fought racism and bigotry and did not make their presidency a bulwark of racism and bigotry. I know which president called out the 82nd Airborne to make sure kids of color could go to a high school in Little Rock, Arkansas. I know which president said, “There are a lot of good people on both sides…” marching in a Charlottesville, Virginia white nationalist rally. (I never knew there were any good white nationalists and Nazi idolizers.) I know which president fought the lies of Joe McCarthy and Roy Cohn. I know who Roy Cohn later mentored and tutored – think #45 folks. I know thugs and thug wanna bees when they are there for the world to see. I know you are not a good businessman when you bankrupt several times and then you pay off porn stars to keep quiet during your presidential campaign.

I know which president used every day as an opportunity to fan the flames of political warfare and division. I know which president never saw himself as president of all Americans. I know which president coached us to be a divided nation. I know which president wanted us to be divided and acted to do this with every opportunity. I know which president used his office to accumulate power and money every day he sat in the White House. I know which president was a complete stranger to the truth. I know which president was really unfit to serve as his recent Attorney General, William Barr has said.

I am not a Democrat, and I am not a Republican. I am a student of history, and I am proud to be a life-long learner. And most of all, I know the difference between right and wrong. If I can learn and know, so can’t the rest of you that send your money to a conman and buy red baseball hats made in China. By the way, what ever happened to Trump’s trade war with China?

So, I will continue to feel elite to those that do not learn and study our history and take the world of a conman over and over again. Dance on the head of a pin and be a fool, it suits many of you.

If I can know all of this and continue to learn, then so can you. I will always feel superior to ignorance and stupidity. Those are chosen character traits.

I am a native Vermonter. I am a child of the 50s, 1951 to be exact. For much of my youth Vermont had one foot in the 19th century and one in the 20th century. The old ways coexisted with a world that was changing. We were sort of insulated in Vermont from much that was happening outside our state, but our little protective bubble was shrinking. My understanding of today has been greatly influenced by the past as the past was always part of our present in the Vermont of the 1950s and even the 60s. I am not much of a follower and like to do my own thinking. You will find my thoughts on many topics here. I value my family and a quiet existence in a very rural part of Vermont. I try to write clearly and simply. I hope you enjoy and thank you for visiting my site. Take care.
